DISAPPOINTED: Georgia Football Snags Former Stanford Star Offensive Weapon Via the Transfer Portal – 2024 Offseason

Benjamin Yurosek

The Georgia football program housed one of the best tight ends in the country over the past three seasons, but former three-year standout Brock Bowers will jump to the NFL come April. The Bulldogs used Bowers in various ways, squeezing every ounce of athleticism out of their freak offensive talent. However, head coach Kirby Smart and Georgia made a big splash on Friday in an attempt to replace Bowers’ production on the field. Per ESPN’s Pete Thamel, the Bulldogs have inked former Stanford Cardinal standout Benjamin Yurosek via the transfer portal.

Considered one of the best transfer tight ends, only former Alabama Crimson Tide playmaker Amari Niblack and Oregon State transfer Jack Velling trumped Yurosek in NIL value, per On3 Sports. Niblack was previously a four-star recruit, while Velling has 45 catches for 719 yards and 11 touchdowns in two college seasons.

The 13th-ranked tight end in the class of 2020 per 247Sports, Benjamin Yurosek, started at Bakersfield Christian High School before joining the Stanford Cardinal. He did not record any offense stats as a true freshman before snagging 43 passes for 658 yards and three scores in 2021. The six-foot-five, 232-pound tight end’s best game came against Arizona State in early October, recording six receptions for 118 yards. Stanford struggled on offense in 2022, resulting in a downtick regarding Yurosek’s production. He caught a career-high 49 passes but had just one touchdown on 445 yards.

Yurkosek dealt with injuries this season, collecting 16 catches for 239 yards and a touchdown in only six games. However, he started the season by recording nine receptions for 138 yards and a touchdown in the season opener against the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors. The California native also recorded five carries for 14 yards during his four-year stint with the Cardinal.

The Georgia football program has lost its fair share of talent through the transfer portal, including cornerback A.J. Harris, but they have also inked a bevy of talent for next fall. Among the best players headed to Athens for the 2024 season are former Florida Gators standout running back Trevor Etienne, Vanderbilt wideout London Humphreys, Alabama safety Jake Pope, and USC receiver Michael Jackson III.

Etienne tallied 1,710 scrimmage yards and 15 touchdowns in two years with Florida, while Humphreys snagged 22 passes for 439 yards and four scores as a freshman last year. Meanwhile, Pope is a former four-star prospect, and Jackson had 46 catches in three years with the Trojans.
