PATRIOTS MOST EXCITING NEWS: Former Patriots Receiver Set To Join Team As Assistant Coach (Report)

Another well-known individual is joining Jerod Mayo’s coaching group. Numerous rumors state that Tiquan Underwood will rejoin the Patriots as an assistant receivers coach.

Underwood only played one season with the squad in 2011. Underwood is well-known for his high-top fade as well as his tenure with New England, having been let go the night before Super Bowl XLVI. Underwood, who has sometimes visited Patriots training camp, has spent the last four seasons coaching receivers in college, first at Pitt (2022–23) and then at Rutgers (2020–21), where he played collegiate ball.

In addition to coaching Pitt’s receivers, the former Patriots receiver and Mayo’s colleague coordinated Frank Cignetti Jr.’s offense’s passing game.

During the offseason, Pitt sacked its offensive staff, but Underwood was the sole coach kept on.

The Panthers did have a receiver under his instruction Jared Wayne, who had 60 receptions for almost 1,000 yards.

Underwood seems to be replacing Ross Douglas, who departed to become the receivers coach at Syracuse.

Since 2021, Troy Brown has served as the head receivers coach on the coaching staff. Brown most recently worked as the offensive coordinator for the Senior Bowl. Underwood and Brown seem to be collaborating, though it’s unclear if Brown will stay on Mayo’s staff.

Dont’a Hightower, a former Patriots Super Bowl winner, joined Mayo last week as a linebackers coach.

Underwood will be joining a group of new offensive staff members, including offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt, senior offensive assistant Ben McAdoo, offensive lineman Scott Peters, assistant offensive lineman Robert Kugler, and quarterbacks coach T.C. McCartney.
