CHECKOUT: Tottenham Fans Express Excitement On what Olivier Giroud Said About Timo Werner Back In 2021

Timo Werner is reportedly closing in on a surprise loan move to Tottenham, with the RB Leipzig striker set to return to the Premier League.

The Germany international created quite the reputation for himself in his last spell in England with Chelsea, where Werner won the UEFA Champions League with the Blues.

Whilst things might be different under Ange Postecoglou, there’s no denying that there is some intrigue over how Werner will do back in the Premier League with a club like Tottenham.

And Spurs supporters will be interested in what former Chelsea star Olivier Giroud had to say about the Leipzig forward back in 2021, the year the duo won the Champions League.

In an interview with the Athletic, Giroud said: “I think Timo is a great striker and he played a huge part in our success last year. The problem is people look too much at the statistics when you’re a striker, and if you’re not scoring enough goals, they will always make comments about your game and stuff like that.

“I know he didn’t score so many goals but, in the Tuchel philosophy, he was huge, so important. He runs all day long and he really, really complemented Kai Havertz and Mason Mount.”

Whilst the idea of Werner partnering Richarlison in Tottenham’s attack is a sentence that might be enough to break the universe in half, there could be some beauty behind the madness.

In Postecoglou’s system, the speedy Germany international could be an instant hit if the service can be provided to Werner from the likes of James Maddison and Heung-min Son.

Moreover, given what happened at Chelsea, Werner could be ready to hit the Premier League again with a vengeance, with the 27-year-old seemingly itching to get back to playing in England once more.
