After joining Manchester City in 2022, Arsenal star Gabriel Jesus has now played for three teams on two continents.
Before joining Mikel Arteta’s team and helping them win a title against his old team last season, Jesu spent more than five years with Manchester City.
After Arsenal’s comeback, Gabriel Jesus shares a surprise with Man City fans.
After leaving Man City, where he had won four Premier League championships and scored 95 goals, Jesus was a well-liked figure. Since then, he has played twice against his former team, once at the Etihad Stadium and once at the Emirates.
Speaking with Brazilian YouTuber Cartoloucos, Jesus expressed his astonishment at being greeted with cheers by Manchester City supporters during his warm-up before a crucial match in the championship battle upon his return to the Etihad.
“I have played against City twice since I left.” People cheered as I walked onto the pitch to warm up’, he said.
“There isn’t that (booing and swearing) that you would have in Brazil. But it largely depends on the player’s profile, what he did during his time at the club and after.”
Gabriel Jesus earned respect during his time at Man City
With Emmanuel Adebayor storming across the Etihad pitch to enrage them after he scored against the Gunners for Man City and Robin van Persie also losing his popularity after a contentious move to Manchester United, Arsenal fans are all too familiar with the hostile receptions given to former players who join rival clubs. However, Jesus has done little to deserve the same level of animosity from his former supporters.
