DONE TRADE: Cubs Lands Over 40 Home Run Slugger From New York Mets

Cubs Acquire Over 40 Home Run Slugger in Intended Trade

One of the top hitters in baseball is sent by the New York Mets to the Chicago Cubs as part of a trade proposal.

The Chicago Cubs have reportedly expressed interest in signing a current New York Mets slugger during the offseason.

The Cubs may try to make a trade or two during the season to strengthen their lineup, given the paucity of moves they made in the off-season to bolster their offence.

Mets star Pete Alonso is one of the possible options for Chicago.

They were reportedly interested in Alonso earlier in the offseason. His capacity to smash more than 40 home runs in a single season could come in handy if they want to contend for the postseason in 2024.

At the end of the season, Alonso will also become a free agent, and New York doesn’t appear to be a squad that can contend with the top half of the National League.

This might be the best opportunity for them to transfer Alonso.

Alonso would be acquired by the Cubs in exchange for Cade Horton, Michael Busch, and Jordan Wicks in a trade suggested by Joey Mistretta of ClutchPoints.

Even though Alonso would give Chicago everything and more, if he was willing to sign an extension following the trade, they should make this transaction.

It doesn’t make sense for the Cubs to trade three of the organization’s top five prospects for a first baseman whose contract is about to expire.

The front office would have no choice but to do this if Alonso’s contract still had several years left on it.

But it isn’t the reality.

Alonso might be the bat this team has been lacking, but because he will be available in free agency the next year, there is no need to overpay.
