Rafael Leao has made his summer plans clear amid rumours that Newcastle United were considering a bold move this summer
Rafael Leao says he has no plans to leave Milan this summer, swatting away speculative links with Newcastle United.
The Magpies have been tentatively tipped to make a move for the Portugal star, should Financial Fair Play constraints allow. Miguel Almiron is expected to be the subject of Saudi interest for a second window, with an exit leaving Eddie Howe short on right-wing options.
Leao is a left-winger, though, and Newcastle have Anthony Gordon thriving on the flank with Harvey Barnes bought from Leicester City last summer. Leao, who has 23 senior international caps, can operate as a striker although has hardly played there in the past three seasons.
“I won’t forget. I am loyal. I was a kid when I arrived and I’ve grown up as a man and as a footballer. I want to win again, my head is here.”
Newcastle are expected to look for attacking reinforcement this summer with just two natural center-forwards on their books in the shape of Alexander Isak and injury-plagued Callum Wilson. There may be a significant exodus this summer as ageing and fringe players are chopped amid FFP concerns.
However, Joelinton looks as though he will be staying on Tyneside, as the Chronicle understands that the Brazilian is close to renewing his contract at St James’ Park.
