J.B. Bickerstaff Achieves Career Coaching Milestone As New Head Coach Takeover Hit Cavs

J.B. Bickerstaff wins his 250th NBA game (165th with the Cleveland Cavaliers) as a head coach.

It is rare for a coach who is guiding a team through a rebuild to be able to stay and see it through. That has not been the case for J.B. Bickerstaff, who joined the Cleveland Cavaliers amid the 2019-20 season and remains the team’s sideline boss.

Following that, Bickerstaff received a contract extension through the 2026-27 season and was charged with leading the wine-and-gold to a long playoff run.

On Monday evening, the Cavaliers rallied from a double-digit advantage to defeat the Indiana Pacers 108-103. Yes, the victory may have playoff ramifications at the end of the season, but it was a watershed moment in J.B.’s coaching career.

Bickerstaff earned his 250th win as an NBA head coach which is also his 165 with the Cavaliers.

Bickerstaff’s first head coaching job was with the Houston Rockets during the 2015-16 season. While the LeBron James-led Cavaliers ended Cleveland’s 52-year championship drought, Bickerstaff guided the Rockets to a 37-34 record and a playoff spot.

Bickerstaff’s next stint as a head coach was with the Memphis Grizzlies, from 2017 to 2019. J.B. won 48 games in his first season and a half on the job.

Bickersatff has faced some criticism from supporters in recent seasons. However, it is vital to recognise events like this because it is rare in today’s NBA to see a head coach stay with the same organisation for half a decade.

J.B. is a key reason why Cleveland is one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference, and he deserves to be recognised for his achievements.
