Minneapolis — The Minnesota Vikings roster is rapidly shifting as NFL free agency begins this week.

Though free agency does not officially begin until Wednesday, the “legal tampering period” has already begun as of late Monday morning. This means that players with expiring contracts can communicate and negotiate contracts with other teams through their representatives.

Not shortly after the legal negotiations began, one of the most pressing questions heading into the offseason was answered: veteran Kirk Cousins will no longer be the Vikings’ starting quarterback. He will allegedly sign a four-year contract with the Atlanta Falcons.

To replace Cousins, the Vikings are allegedly signing former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Sam Darnold on a one-year deal. He might serve as a bridge quarterback if the Vikings select a young passer in the upcoming draft.

Another notable Viking in free agency is pass rusher Danielle Hunter, who dominated last season with over 16 sacks. He looks less likely to return now that the team has allegedly signed edge rusher Jonathan Greenard and linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel, both of whom have had experience pressuring the quarterback.

The Vikings parted ways with last season’s main running back Alexander Mattison earlier this offseason, leaving a void at the RB position. That has also been addressed, with the team allegedly signing former Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones.

Contracts cannot become official until free agency begins at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, but there will be plenty of important updates in the interim.
