WHY WE LOST: Florida bounces back against Georgia for first SEC win of the season

Leilani Correa led the Gators with a career high 30-points

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – The Florida Women’s Basketball team won its first SEC game of the season. The Gators defeated the Bulldogs 78-to-69 at home in the O’Dome.

UF came out strong right out of the gate, recording as high as a 12-point lead in the first quarter. Florida tallied an additional 19 points in the second and even more impressively shot 50 percent from the field to increase the lead. The Gators kept the momentum up after halftime, scoring 23 in the third and 17 in the fourth.

The Bulldogs best quarter was in the fourth. Georgia secured 26 points in the last 10 minutes of play closing the gap. Florida responded and closed out the game with a nine-point margin.

The UF team was dynamic and intentional with the ball. The offense was led by Leilani Correa who scored a career high against the Bulldogs. She scored a game high 30-points. Aliyah Matharu also reached double-figures, scoring 21-points for the Gators. Freshman Laila Renyolds had an impressive game. She had a team high 7-rebounds in the game.
