Not Manchester City; Premier League Announces Club At Risk Of Points Deduction

Despite facing 115 financial accusations in the Premier League, Manchester City is not the club most at risk of losing points. Nottingham Forest are considered the Premier League club most at risk of losing points.

Fans may be surprised to learn that, even though the Premier League’s final verdict on their 115 accusations for suspected financial violations is coming, Manchester City are not the club most at risk of losing points.

That’s because it’s been claimed that Forest will learn later this month if they will become the third top-flight team to be charged with violating the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability regulations.

According to The Telegraph, Forest is sailing close to the wind in terms of spending after adding 43 players since winning the Championship play-off final in May 2022. The club, on the other hand, insists that they have “fully complied” with their reporting responsibilities and has sought the help of famous sports lawyer Nick De Marco, who has an exceptional track record in football, particularly against Financial Fair Play verdicts, to plead their case.

Clubs are allowed a financial loss of £105 million over three years, with Forest declaring an annual deficit of £45.6 million in their most recent records. They posted a deficit of £34.4m in the fiscal year ended June 2021, which was reduced to a loss of £15.5m before tax.

Evangelos Marinakis, Forest’s Greek billionaire owner, has invested almost £250 million in transfer fees since his arrival and has committed an additional £11 million in loans into shares for the fiscal year 2022-2023.

The City Ground club’s main issue revolves around the £47.5m sale of Wales international Brennan Johnson to Tottenham Hotspur on deadline day last summer, with the club presenting its records for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2023, last week.

“The club has fully complied with its reporting obligations in respect of the Premier League’s revised profit and sustainability rules,” said a spokeswoman for Forest. The treatment of promotion incentives is only one illustration of how promotion to the Premier League will always provide complications. The club approaches all such difficulties with a firm commitment to long-term financial sustainability.
