On Tuesday, AZ released its traveling roster for a winter training camp in Spain, which did not include Mihailovic.
The club later stated on X that the American midfielder was “allowed to complete a transfer and will therefore not travel to Spain.”
Mihailovic only joined AZ in January 2023, having previously played in the MLS with the Chicago Fire and CF Montréal.
With AZ, the playmaker quickly established himself as a rotational player, appearing in 20 games (five starts) and scoring one goal in his debut half-season.
This season has been more of the same for Mihailovic. The 25-year-old has appeared in 16 games, starting five of them and scoring one goal.
Mihailovic has 11 caps for the United States men’s national team, including five at the Gold Cup last summer.
