BREAKING NEWS: Minnesota Vikings Dismissed Two Key Players For Going……….

“There’s a lot of scenarios but I like the flexibility that those two picks give us, I don’t think they lock us into any one strategy.”

The Vikings have been one of the most active teams this offseason and that may have been by design.

Talking to the Vikings’ in-house entertainment network, general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah said that in making plans to build the roster “we knew this offseason would be key for us.”

“I think this is a plan that [head coach Kevin O’Connell] and I set in place, really since we got here,” said Adofo-Mensah when asked about the offseason focus on rebuilding the team’s defense. “You have these high-level thoughts about how you want to build a team but ultimately you inherit a team and you have to adapt and change. I had to adapt and change to Kevin and coach (Brian) Flores and all those different things. I think we’ve gotten to a really great place where we knew this offseason would be key for us to not just add good players but to add players on our time horizon but also with versatility that fit coach Flores’ defense.”

While losing Danielle Hunter was certainly a big blow for the defense, Minnesota has done a lot of work to replace the star pass rusher. Jonathan Greenard and Andrew Van Ginkel were signed to big money deals early in free agency while they brought in a handful of depth pass rushers to fill out the defensive front.

Despite being active in free agency to shore up the defense, Adofo-Mensah doesn’t expect the moves to change the team’s plans for the NFL Draft.

“I think it does to a point but the draft should always ultimately be about acquiring great players. I don’t think what you do in feee agency would necessarily change that. I think maybe it would shift certain things down a rung in the pecking order,” he said. “So, I think in that sense it maybe has but otherwise our job is to evaluate the risk profile of every player, try to guess who’s going to be a great player and then go try and acquire as many of them as we can.”
