Lamar Jackson is the NFL’s youngest quarterback to win MVP twice in history. The Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson has created history by winning the 2023 NFL MVP award.

With 49 of 50 first-place votes, he defeated Christian McCaffrey, Dak Prescott, Brock Purdy, and Josh Allen to win MVP. Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills, the quarterback who finished fifth overall, received the final first-place vote, with Jackson having accrued 493 points under the revised voting system.

With 152 points, Dak Prescott placed second overall, ahead of Christian McCaffrey (147), Brock Purdy (97), and Allen (80). Though they were way outside of the top five, other noteworthy players including Myles Garrett, Tyreek Hill, Matthew Stafford, Patrick Mahomes, and C.J. Stroud also earned points.

However, Jackson won handily, as he completed 307 of 457 passes this season, good for a 67.2 percent passing accuracy. All of these, including the 3,678 yards he gained at the end of the season, are career highs for Jackson.
Jackson threw 24 touchdowns and seven interceptions in the 16 games he played in the regular season in 2023.

He added three more touchdowns and one interception in the postseason. Since then, he hasn’t hit these figures before.

Lamar Jackson is the youngest ever two-time MVP-winning quarterback in the NFL

The two-time champion now has two wins under their belt, joining the likes of Joe Montana, Steve Young, Kurt Warner, and Patrick Mahomes. He has received recognition for guiding the Ravens to the NFL’s best regular season record. With a 13-3 record and the AFC’s top seed, the Ravens had an incredible season that earned them home-field advantage throughout the postseason.

The Chiefs put an end to the Ravens after they had defeated the Houston Texans 34-10 in the Divisional Round. After defeating the Ravens 17–10 in Baltimore, the Chiefs moved on to Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas with the AFC Championship. Before the awards event, the Chiefs quarterback, who was outplayed by Mahomes, had nothing but kind things to say about Jackson.

“He continues to get better,” Mahomes said before Super Bowl 58. “He’s a competitor, and he wants to win. All you want to do in this league is get better, year in and year out, and you’ve seen that from Lamar.

“It’s hard when you win the MVP that first season, then strive to get better and he’s done that. That’s probably why he will win the MVP here.” Jackson’s 2019 season was one of the best individual performances seen in recent times, as he went 13-2 with the Ravens in his first year as a franchise starter.

Jackson wowed the crowds in that season, not only throwing 36 touchdowns but also rushing for seven touchdowns and running over 1,200 yards. While he hasn’t yet had a taste of Super Bowl glory, rival player Mahomes believes it’s just a matter of time. “I knew we were gonna play in a lot of games like this as our careers have gone on, and I’m sure this will be the first of many,” he expressed before the AFC Championship.
