Carroll’s work ethic and love for the game earned the trust of the Diamondbacks to offer a record-breaking extension.Corbin Carroll, the Diamondbacks’ top prospect, signed an eight-year, $111 million contract deal Wednesday. With fewer than 100 days of service time, it was a record-breaking agreement that easily surpassed Michael Harris II’s eight-year, $72 million deal with the Braves last August.

It takes a lot of trust for the D-backs to hand a player with just 32 major league games under his belt a record-breaking agreement. Carroll earned that trust while the spotlight weren’t shining on him. Carroll also trusted Joe Urbon, his agent, to work out a long-term contract that would keep him in Arizona.

“Since the day we’ve drafted Corbin, he’s been a model in so many different ways of what we’re looking for in an Arizona Diamondbacks player” said Mike Hazen, the team’s general manager. “I’m convinced he goes to bed every night fixated on how he’s going to be a better player the next day and what he could do to help the organization and the team win” .

Hazen claims that the talks went on for about a month. Carroll, with his family’s assistance, was deeply engaged at every stage of the undertaking. Carroll stated that a deal “made sense to both sides in terms of what you’re giving up in terms of risk and leverage” was eventually worked out. I believed it to be obvious when we reached a win-win situation.

The D-backs needed to convey the correct message to the clubhouse, which is why they were pressing for a deal with Carroll. Hazen stated, “Ken [Kendrick] and Derrick [Hall] have challenged us to continue to find ways to invest in this team in the ways that we really want and feel very convicted and doing and this was an example of that” . Merrill Kelly and Ketel Marte signed extended agreements with the team last year.

Carroll will remain a Diamondback for the foreseeable future, and the franchise is counting on him to be the cornerstone of a competitive squad that plays a very exciting and dynamic brand of baseball.
