NFL Intervened As Panthers Block Jaguars’ Request To Interview DC Ejiro Evero

The Panthers are searching for a new head coach and general manager but amid the search, they’re trying to hold on to one of their own. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Carolina has denied the Jacksonville Jaguars’ request to interview defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero for the same position in Florida. Evero is a candidate to take the top job in Carolina following the firing of Frank Reich after 11 games during the season.

The Jaguars fired several members of their coaching staff following their failure to make the postseason due to a loss against the Titans. Among the firings was defensive coordinator Mike Caldwell, along with seven of his assistants.

The Panthers have been providing updates on their general manager search but the head coaching search has been a quieter process. On Wednesday, the team shared that they will interview two internal candidates for the GM role – assistant GM Dan Morgan and vice president of football administration Samir Suleiman.

Morgan, the Panthers’ first-round pick in 2001, helped lead the team to the Super Bowl after the 2003 season. He worked in the Seahawks’ and Bills’ front offices before returning to Carolina in 2021.

As for Suleiman, it won’t be his first swing at the top job in Charlotte. He also interviewed for the GM job in 2021. He currently oversees the team’s salary cap strategy and contract negotiations. Suleiman joined the franchise after an eight-year stint with the Steelers. He has also worked for the Rams and Jaguars.

Panthers request to interview Cowboys’ Dan Quinn

The Cowboys are once again receiving a slew of permission to interview requests for defensive coordinator Dan Quinn. After winning the AP’s Assistant Coach of the Year award in 2021 and coaching the Cowboys defense into the top unit for takeaways last season, Quinn is a hot name for teams to consider. The Carolina Panthers, Los Angeles Chargers, and Washington Commanders have all reportedly requested permission to interview the former Atlanta Falcons head coach.

Each year it has seemed like Quinn would leave the Cowboys to once again dive into a head coaching job, but either due to lack of significant interest or Jerry Jones’ deal-making, he’s chosen to continue building under Mike McCarthy.

Asked about his interest in the head coach market last year, Quinn said that only an opportunity that “lights him up” will get him to walk away from Dallas.

“I’m having a blast here,” Quinn said, via Jon Machota. “If down the line there’s an opportunity that lights me up, we’ll discuss it then.”
