Patriots Offensive Lineman Fires Agent With Free Agency Looming After………

Michael Onwenu, an offensive lineman with the Patriots, fires an agent as free agency approaches.

CINCINNATI: A few weeks from now comes NFL free agency. An elite offensive lineman who was about to enter the market suddenly let go of his agency.

Michael Onwenu of the Patriots isn’t represented right now, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

Arguably, this free-agent class’s best offensive lineman is Onwenu. He may still be subject to the Patriots’ franchise tag, but if he were to reach free agency, he may be targeted by clubs looking to add him as an offensive tackle or guard.

The 26-year-old played 656 snaps at right guard for the Patriots last season, but also played 194 snaps at right guard. He also played left guard during the 2020 and 2021 seasons.

His versatility will attract a plethora of teams. Could the Bengals be one of them?

They have the cap space to go after a veteran like Onwenu. He’s 26-years-old, maybe the best option in free agency and has the flexibility to play both guard spots and right tackle.

Whether or not he’ll hire an agent is a major question between now and free agency. The Patriots have until March 5 to use the franchise tag on Onwenu.
