The newest player on the Washington Capitals is Pierre-Luc Dubois. The Los Angeles Kings traded goaltender Darcy Kuemper to Washington this week in exchange for the 25-year-old centerman.
PLD is said to be thrilled about the new chance as he prepares to travel to Washington, DC, for his first Training Camp with the club in September. There are a few familiar faces waiting for him when he enters MedStar Capitals Iceplex.
Kenny McCudden, the current assistant/skills coach for the Capitals, played the same position for Dubois during his four years as a rookie in the NHL with the Columbus Blue Jackets as he does now in Washington.
“In small areas, he performs like a bigger player,” McCudden said to Tom Reed of The Athletic in 2018. He’ll get a pass by shortening his stick. He can pick pucks up off his feet with ease by bending his knees.
“You can simply see him become more adept at accelerating out of congested spaces. He’s just an exceptionally talented big man player. We know that many of the big men in this league require a lot of road to get going, so it’s very neat to see. He is not among those athletes.
Before the 2018 season, McCudden was employed by the Capitals as a member of Spencer Carbery’s staff. Dubois has been a big fan of his previous collaborations.

Hendrix Lapierre, a 22-year-old forward, is another player from Quebec who is expected to play a part for the Capitals. Another player in the organization who speaks French, Pierrick Dubé, should also fight for a spot on the Caps after he scored 28 goals for the Hershey Bears in the previous campaign.
Alex Ovechkin, Alex Alexeyev, Ivan Miroshnichenko, and Belorussian Aliaksei Protas are all expected to play with the Capitals in the upcoming season. Dubois has also stated that he prefers to play alongside Russian teammates.
Dubois has played on teams with former Capitals players in addition to linking up with current staff and players from his past.
